Castletown Heritage collects records from the past.  The records in our archive are used to teach us more about the town and  its people.

From the beginning in 1997, it was the intention that Castletown Heritage should attempt 'to preserve, research and make public records and memories of Castletown'.  Eva Wilson has been in charge of this part of Castletown Heritage's activity.  She is happy to receive old photographs and scribbled memories, old leaflets and posters – in fact the sort of thing you may want to tidy away from drawers and cupboards but don't know what to do with.

The records are kept safe, but they are also made use of.  Some turn up in our Newsletter and Clips as are stories based on records we have received.

At least once a year Eva Wilson collects material from the records for a talk on some specific part of Castletown – in 2006/7 on the history of the Harbour. There are also occasional exhibitions using photographs as well as other material focused on an area as, for example, the recent developments in Hope Street and Mill Street.

William Henry Cooper's Castletown was published by Castletown Heritage in 2005.

Ultimately, our archive will be offered to Manx National Heritage.

One of several current studies from the records is a collection of Castletown Nicknames. A new Nicknames Section will follow shortly.
